Volumetric Concrete Mixers reduce jobsite costs

Volumetric Concrete Mixers (a machine that can be taken to construction sites and used to produce concrete) offer substantial advantages over traditional methods of concrete delivery. A Volumetric Mixer is basically a mobile truck mixer and batching plant rolled into one. All raw materials are stored in separate compartments and these are then metered and mixed into fresh concrete where and when it’s needed. This means that there is no expensive waste of materials, as the unmixed product remains useable indefinitely. The Volumetric Mixer also eliminates the need for part load charges and problems with over or under-ordering. Customers can estimate the amount of concrete needed and the exact quantity can be mixed on site, and they’ll only pay for what they use. Volumetric Mixers can supply all mixes and grades of concrete, including screed and mortar. Mixes and grades can be switched from one customer to the next or even halfway through a job if necessary.

The big advantage of volumetric mixers vs ready mix trucks is that they eliminate the risk of concrete quality problems caused by traffic jams or ready-mix truck breakdowns.

The world’s smallest truck-mounted concrete boom pump

A feature to consider with concrete machinery required at a construction site is the flexibility that they have to manoeuvre about easily. The primary function of a concrete pump is to deliver large amounts of cement to a construction site. If it is difficult for it to back into the right area, then it will become difficult to take the cement out of the mixer.

The world’s smallest truck-mounted concrete boom pump, better know as the Urban Pump, was launched recently. The Urban Pump is mounted on a HGV lorry and is just 2m in width, 3m in height and 6.8m in length. It weighs 7500kg and has a 15m placing boom, which, if further pipeline is integrated, can extend to reach 65m vertically and 300m horizontally, pumping concrete at rates of 45m3/hour. It has a 3-section ‘Z’ fold boom that can unfold in just 4.4m of space and rotates through 360 degrees.

The Urban Pump is as versatile to manoeuvre as a large van and anyone with a standard driving license can drive it, as there is no requirement for a HGV license. It has been especially developed to meet the demands of today’s city centre construction sites where access and weight restrictions are always an issue. As the Urban Pump is only 2m wide it can easily fit through narrow streets and around tight corners, and as it is only 3m high it can simply travel through tunnels and work inside of buildings.

In addition, the Urban Pump is 4-wheel drive so it can cope with harsh terrains, allowing concrete to be pumped in locations where previously other methods of concrete placement would have had to be used. It is also a very economically attractive alternative to a standard truck mounted concrete pump.
